SUMED promotes the exercise of communication in museum sustainability processes.

A few days ago, the European research team SUMED held a four-hour academic session on the master's degree in Cultural Management, in which 40 students from the Universitat de València and the Universitat Politècnica de València participated, where they discussed the importance of communication in the sustainability process within museum institutions. Taught by Julio González Liendo, with the support of Nuria Lloret Romero, the course showed in a theoretical and practical way how communication should be developed around the exercise of museum sustainability. In this sense, the Huella M methodology, a comprehensive tool for measuring, managing, and reporting sustainability, was used. It was an occasion in which the students were able to appreciate how communication is part of the entire sustainability process: from the formulation of sustainability plans, the implementation of Huella M, the preparation of reports and the use of communication as an enhancer of the scope and results of a sustainable process. In addition, this pilot, which is part of the SUMED project, a collaborative initiative being carried out in five European universities to enhance sustainability in museum management, has allowed students to share their own recommendations and/or observations of what they have detected on the websites of the museums they have evaluated in terms of communication. This opportunity has served to put into practice their ability to see how museums implement sustainability models, but also underlines their crucial role in the project. This exercise will be repeated in the coming days with Bachelor of Fine Arts students to expand the scope of our research. Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce that for the month of November, we plan to move forward with the next pilot, which promises to be an enriching experience for everyone involved. We would also like to tell you that in October, we will present the results of WP3 at two international conferences that are taking place in Spain, which deal with sustainable education and communication.
